Dr. Chuck Carlson and the entire team at Surf City Smiles have been absolutely incredible. Both of my children went through braces with Dr. Chuck, and I honestly couldn’t imagine a better experience. Dr. Chuck is exceptionally thorough and a true perfectionist. He genuinely cares about getting the best possible outcome, and it shows in the final results. When you’re investing in orthodontic treatment for two kids, it’s reassuring to know your orthodontist refuses to settle for anything less than perfect. His attention to detail, knowledge, and individualized approach gave us complete confidence throughout the entire process. The staff is equally outstanding. Everyone is knowledgeable, friendly, organized, and always willing to work around our busy schedules. The occasional Saturday appointments were a lifesaver for our family and made juggling school, sports, and activities so much easier. What meant the most to us was how they cared for my son, who had anxiety after a traumatic experience with a previous dentist. Here is my experience and my opinion on this place. My older son got his braces at this place sadly. I was going to have him do it elsewhere where it was only going to take 12 months since he only had a small gap between his front teeth but it was far and I believed all the positive reviews that this place has. Chuck told us that he needs to wear them for 18 months and he had him do two X-Rays that his assistant claimed were safe and less radiation than other places. I took my second son later and it was the same thing. He also said he needed 18 months, my son wanted Invisalign and Chuck said it was going to take longer and he doesn’t even use Invisalign he uses another brand for the same price but after they took the X ray I googled the machine and turned out that they use a 3D cone not a 2D like most other offices which is way more radiation. I asked them to not do anymore and that I am willing to sign a waiver. His assistant called me and claimed that he contacted his lawyer and he must do another one at the end and maybe even a third one in the middle of the treatment that’s when I decided to find someone else. (Btw the first thing they do during a consultation is taking x rays

I find it very odd that someone like chuck Carlson has all 5 star reviews. My experience with him was not that great. He has zero bedside manners. He’s always in a hurry and makes you feel like he’s super busy and doesn’t want to waste his precious time on you. He only wants your money and he extends the treatment unnecessarily. I definitely do not recommend this place

Today was my son’s last day getting his braces removed and receiving his retainers. We had such a great experience throughout the entire process. The clinic is always very clean, and the staff is respectful, kind, and professional. They took great care of my son and made him feel comfortable at every visit. We truly appreciate all the hard work and dedication. Highly recommend for anyone considering braces!

Today is the end of our braces era! My youngest just got his braces off today! Dr. Chuck and his entire staff are awesome! We’ve had a great experience here and highly recommend coming Surf City Smiles. Added bonus - their office is super nice complete with a massage chair and coffee maker. I gotta say that massage chair made waiting for my son’s appointment something I looked forward to!
